I noticed this morning that R commented on this picture on Facebook – his comments “Too True”.

Here is my version of my diary.

Dear Diary,

Today I had a fabulous day shopping with my friends, I got the best new Christian Louboutin‘s (can’t wait to wear them with that awesome lace pencil skirt I got last week). I also bought the cutest cashmere wrap sweater in a pale gray, its stunning. I couldn’t believe my luck when I found my dream spring handbag, it was only $545.00 so I bought it before I had any regrets. I love this time of year, all the new fashions are coming out, too bad nothing is on sale! I met up with R for dinner after my shopping spree, he didn’t seem as exciting about all my new purchases as I was. I asked him if something was bothering him and he just said ‘no’. We were both kind of lost in our own thoughts for the rest of dinner, I really think I should go back and buy those Frye Paige Tan Riding boots – they match my new handbag perfectly. In the car on the way home I got to thinking about how quiet R had been since I showed up at the restaurant. He’s probably pissed off that I spent so much money but told him we couldn’t afford for him to spend 9 weekends at the track this year. I told him I loved him and he didn’t really respond…oh ya, he is pissed. Well, too bad, he gets 6 track weekends and I get a Spring shopping spree. After we got home he just kind of sat around on the couch watching tv and moping so I went upstairs to try on all my new stuff and get ready for bed. He came up about 15 minutes later and went straight to bed, he didn’t even ask about my new stuff. Brutal! If he thinks I am going to feel guilty and cave to an extra 3 weekends at the track he can think again. I love my new stuff.

His Diary

Motorcycle won’t start and I can’t figure out why, and GGi went and spent all the money I need to fix it when I do figure it out. BS!

Do I look like a threat?

Last week I had the privilege of attending Porsche 991 training (this is the newest body style 911) in Newport Beach, California. There was a group of 4 of us from the dealership going and we agreed to meet at the airport around 6:00am and have breakfast after we checked in and cleared customs. It was a cold and dreary morning but with the prospect of Sunshine and the new 991 awaiting me in California I was pumped. I had just cleared customs and was on my way to check my bag when a very nice man dressed in an official airport uniform approached me and ask to see my passport. I thought he was just being friendly and was going to direct me to the shortest line for the carry and body scans. Nope…that wasn’t what he had in mind at all. He took my passport and boarding pass and asked me follow him, apparently I was the next lucky contestant on “You’ve been randomly selected to undergo a secondary security check”. Really?? Really? Do I look like a threat?

So, off we went to a separate side room, and before you go getting any nasty ideas let me be perfectly clear that this room was full of people and no rubber gloves came out. I was NOT subjected to a full body search! (this has been a common question among my male co-workers). He asked me a multitude of questions, here is how our conversation went.

Him: Where are you going?
Me: Newport Beach, California
Him: Why?
Me: Training for work
Him: Where do you work, what are you training people for?
Me: Porsche, I am not training, I am being trained.
Him: Who packed your bag, if I open it what will I find in there?
Me: I packed my bag, it has cosmetics, clothes, hairdryer, shoes. You can go ahead and open it.
Him: I am impressed you fit it all in this bag (he opens my bag, and thankfully doesn’t go through it, it would suck to re pack it).
Him: (Goes through my purse and investigates my wallet), Who is HG? And why do you have a cheq from them?
Me: She is my great-aunt and she gave me that cheq for Christmas
Him: Really? Why haven’t you cashed it?
Me: When is the last time you went into the bank?
Him: *laughs* (thank god!) Good point. So, where do you work?
Me: Porsche.
Him: Have ever been finger printed or arrested?
Me: Nope, not that I am aware of. (BIG SMILE)
Him: Ok GGi, I am just going to run your name through our data base and make sure that nothing comes up. (He leaves, comes back and returns my passport and boarding pass). So, I am sorry where do you work?
Me: Really? You have already asked me this question twice, I haven’t switched companies since we have been here.
Him: *laughing* Good enough GGi, have a great flight and enjoy your time in California.

Now really, what was the point of that?

Newport Beach and the 991 event were fantastic, if you can afford to buy one you should. Here are a couple of pics.

Many Ears Disease

R has recently been diagnosed with this disease and it doesn’t mean he can hear way better than anyone else. It’s actually spelled Meniere’s Disease and it causes sudden on set vertigo (which causes vomiting and extreme headaches – GROSS), ringing in his ears and reduced hearing in his left (?) ear. I believe he is going to try and use this to his advantage, like when he selectively doesn’t want to listen to me or hear what I have to say, he’ll tell me he couldn’t hear me.

R went to a concert this week and this seems to aggravated his already delicate condition, so the night after the concert he jumps in bed and I can hear water running. A fast drip that can only mean the tap has been left on. As he woke me from my precious slumber I somewhat crankily asked him if he left the tap on – he denied of course, but since I was in such a fabulous mood he ripped the sheets off and stalked off to investigate. Yup, sure enough the tap is still running, and he couldn’t hear a thing. This newly diagnosed condition of his can be both good and bad for both of us, and everyone else that he knows. If I forget to tell him something, I can say that I did tell him and he’ll just claim he didn’t hear me. Or, I will tell him, he will hear me and he’ll forget and then claim he just didn’t hear me.

Toasty

I decided shortly before Christmas that R and I should relieve our current toaster of its toasting responsibilities and get a toaster oven. I even went so far as to send him the link to a great Toaster Oven that was 50% during some heavily discounted ‘Bay Days’, however Christmas came and went with no sign of a Toaster Oven. R wasn’t totally sold on the Oven and Toaster in one, but he has slowly come around to the genius of it all. He also started to agree that maybe this was the new small appliance we needed. We got a pretty cool grill from BJ and Big L for Christmas, something that we wouldn’t use as often or as much as a Toasty Toaster Oven, so yesterday I went to Future Shop and made the swap.

While at the Shop of Future I found exactly what we needed, the Breville BOV650XL. Ollie and I raced home to check out our new wares only to discover that this particular Toaster Oven had been previously enjoyed. GROSS!!! There were a couple of tell-tale signs, scratches on the front door, signs of wear on the top and the biggest one being that the baking tray had been previously used. You could see grease and something else on it, so back to Future Shop – Ollie and now BA in tow (BA decided that she should have one these new fabulous Toaster Ovens too). No hassles, they quickly made the exchange and robbed BA of her hard-earned dollars. Back at the ranch (that’s our house for cute) I got it all set up and ready for use. This morning I toasted myself 2 slices of bread from frozen to a number 6 darkness and they were perfect! If you want to check it out for yourself, bring your bread and come on over.

Wowie! Did 2012 ever arrive at lightening speed. I am going to provide you with some ramblings from December since I have been an absolutely, positively, atrocious blogger! Thank god my readers are all friends and family. After a whirl of Christmas parties and celebrations R and I had an amazing Christmas with our family. And I don’t know how I do it year after year, but Santa always has me right at the top of his ‘nice’ list. Here is hoping that 2012 brings us as much love and happiness as 2011 did.

Here are my random thoughts for today.

1) I don’t believe in expectant mommy or new mommy parking. In my opinion if you are healthy enough to have children, then you are healthy enough to walk to the door. I have absolutely no problem parking there either, it’s not as if anyone is going to question you on it.

2) Chocolate croissants are like small piece of heaven that have thunked down to earth in a buttery, chocolately, icing sugary torpedo. Straight from my lips to my hips and I don’t care.

3) Good friends (and T just learned this lesson) always tell you if you have something in your teeth, hanging out your nose, if you’re flying low and if you have RED WINE MOUTH. I like to be a good friend, so check your fly and run your tongue over your teeth right now to make sure you are in the clear. Check out this guy – Red Wine Lips!

4) Ollie loves the couch. This Christmas Ollie had a bath and all his bedding was washed and he smelled really good, so we let him on the bed and the couch as a treat. He is bliss.

5) Holidays mean you can eat whatever you want as long as you are ok with torturing yourself after the holidays to lose the damn weight you gained.

6) If you cut a bunch of branches off the bottom of your Christmas tree you can fit a lot more presents under there. It might look funny at first, but trust me, once you load the gifts under it it’s perfect.

7) I heart Butter London Nail Polish, try it, you will too.

8) Champagne and Orange Juice should be made the national drink for Breakfast everywhere.

9) Fuzzy socks are the best.

10) Boxing Day shopping should happen all year. And if you don’t already Google promo codes for online shopping, do it. 80% of the time I find a promo code in a google search for the store I am online shopping from.

11) FACT – I am taller than my mom.

12) In case there are still some of you out there who do not know this, I HATE mushrooms. I also do not enjoy, cooked carrots, baked apples, coconut, walnuts, pecans, dates, raw tomatoes, most fish and seafood (with the exception of Crab) and please don’t offer me anything with Blue Cheese.

Excuse Me, Pardon Me

Yesterday I did some Christmas shopping, it was seniors day at Shopper’s so I tagged along with BA and did some stocking stuffer shopping for R, then I went to the dreaded mall. I know that for some of you this might be hard to believe, but I HATE the mall. I also hate large stores that are invariably busy, like the Superstore, Costco on a Saturday, Holt Renfrew during the holidays (which also has snotty staff) and Walmart. I love buying presents for my family and friends who are on my nice list, and it’s no secret that I also like to buy myself new stuff from time to time . What I don’t love is people in a busy shopping environment. I practically break out in hives if I am asked to attend Yorkdale mall with anyone, it doesn’t seem to matter what day or time it is at that mall, it is always packed with people. People shopping are unpredictable, they don’t seem to have any consideration for the environment around them, nor for their fellow shoppers. In my experience when you remove people from overcrowded environments they are great, but in that environment they are rude and uncivilized. The ones that really get me are the rude stroller shoppers, do you really think that because you have recently added to world population that it entitles you to more than someone without a stroller? I know that some people love to shop last-minute and thrive off of the energy of the pushy panicked people in the mall, I am just not one of those people. In fact, I have done most of my shopping at home online, the UPS, Purolator, Canada Post and FedEx drivers have become quite familiar with our house. I almost feel like we should leave them a Christmas gift, I am going to miss them when the holiday season is over. Happy shopping my friends!

A Breezy Solution

Back in July we talked about the Duvet (and by that I really mean, me) and how R and I have completely different sleep requirements when it comes to the best temperature for sleeping. A few weeks ago I purchased all new bedding for our room, and it looks fabulous. I am super stoked about it (cannot believe I am finally at that age where bedding is exciting) and it required a new duvet to complete the transformation. Since the summer I have suffered with no duvet, just sheets and blankets. This really isn’t enough for our pending winter season. I did not find one of those dual sided duvet, although I also didn’t really look for one. I know, selfish of me, but hey – I am the one shopping for the bed. I did buy a light feather duvet though, and I have left the window open (just a little a bit) to keep R happy. I feel like my Auntie J, she has a real thing for cold bedrooms, I am not sure how we all know this about her, but we do.

Ollie is also accepting of the window solution, it gives him the enjoyment of barking at the little dog that lives behind us. He props his front paws on the window ledge and gives that little dog hell, then when he is ready for bed he curls around and lets us tuck him in with his own doggy duvet (it’s really a blanket). On hot nights he just rolls over and enjoys the beautiful breeze. Here’s hoping that when it gets really cold I can close the window, there is nothing worse than sticking your arm out of the warmth of your bed to shut the alarm off and find that it’s 0 degrees in your room!

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, switch, slowly am I crazy going, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, switch. Have you ever had a song stuck in your head for weeks on end? I have, and I am currently singing 2 verses from a song that I can’t even recall where I ever heard it. This song was released before I was even born, it definitely isn’t on any pop charts or iTunes headlines, and yet I can’t stop singing Melanie Safka’s ’Brand New Key’. That’s right, I sing over and over and over again these 2 verses.

I’ve got a pair of brand new roller skates; and you’ve got a brand new key.

Why, why, why, why, why?????? Why can’t I get this song out of head, I truly feel as though I am going CRAZY!!

Check out the video, it’s folksy, it’s nothing I would ever be into (no offense to anyone who likes folksy), and I don’t even really like roller skating.

Pantry Fascination

I don’t know about the rest of you but I can open and close our pantry a hundred times a day when I am home. I may not even be hungry and yet I find myself in the kitchen staring mindlessly into the pantry. The fridge draws a close second, but that pantry has magical powers. Behind it’s closed doors lays a world of tasty possibilities, and I always love the surprise find in the pantry, something that you bought and hid (so R wouldn’t eat it ALL before you could try it) a decadent treat shoved way to the back and hidden under year old marshmallows. This past weekend I purged our pantry of all it’s old and dated food products, and I am not going to tell you how much food was wasted. I am completely ashamed of R and I for what I had to dispose of, although Ollie seemed eager to help out (too bad for him that none of it was Beach Bum Biscuits). I am just wondering though, am I the only one who finds the pantry fascinating, who can waste at least 5-10 minutes staring into wishing for the contents to change?? Hopeful that if I close the pantry and re-open that it will somehow pull a Harry Potter and contain a pre made healthy snack?? I know Ollie has picked up on this habit too, he stares wistfully at the pantry door often. Although I might contribute his allure with the fact that his Beach Bum Biscuits and Food are contained within.

Beach Bum Biscuits aka Puppy Crack

Oliver has many loves in his life. And he loves them all unconditionally, with the kind of passion and loyalty that everyone should experience in their lives. One of his many loves is Beach Bum Biscuits, they are peanut butter organic dog treats that we got for him while we were in Tybee Island this past September. Before we left we bought 2 bags of them to bring home with us, we are down to our last 5 treats and I believe that he can sense it. In fact I think he has taught himself how to count, when we pull out the Beach Bum Biscuits bag he almost looks panicked by the fact that they are almost gone. So I emailed the store that carries them and they will ship to Canada!! I haven’t told him yet, I am going to keep it a surprise and hold him off with some of his other loves, apples, carrots, yogurt, and blueberries. I only hope he doesn’t go through withdrawal while waiting for them to arrive, they are his addiction, his puppy crack.
