5:20am

This is the time that JC, T and I have committed to get up and run 2-3 times per week.  Early huh?  For some (a very few I am sure) this is normal time to get up and get ready for work, for the rest it’s still quality sleep time.  We are voluntarily getting our sweet little petunias (polite way of saying asses) out of our warm and cozy beds to get a little exercise in for the day.  In the summer it was actually a refreshing way to start the day, as we were running the sun was starting to rise in the sky.  It’s beautiful red-orange hues casting a soft glow on the morning dew, birds chirping, flowers opening, and we were out there in the serenity of the morning.  Sure we were all hot and sweaty by the end of the run, but it was totally worth it. 

This morning T and I dragged our petunias out of bed, bundled up (but not too much, don’t want to sweat and then get cold) in our hats, gloves and running coats and set out for a good healthy run.  It was -5.0 celcius, the sun is nowhere near rising, in fact the almost full moon hung high above our heads.  We wear flashing blue lights so that we are somewhat visible on the roads, and stay off of the paths that we frequent in the summer because they are not lit at all.  A few weeks ago a big old skunk crossed our path (damn nocturnal stinkers), and the smell of rotting crab apples lingers on the sidewalks.  5:20am is beautiful in the summer and torture through the fall and winter.  T and I only started running last September, so we had no idea what summer would bring.  Now that we have had it though, I have to say that 5:20am after September SUCKS!!  Our only consolation, and reason to continue at the ungodly hour is that we don’t have big ole’ petunias!  Also – it’s good for us.
