Street Partay

Saturday night was supposed to be a nice quiet night.  BA and EG made me dinner and then I was heading over to T’s after for wine club.  I had a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, and then T opened up a fresh bottle when I arrived there.  We ended up coming back over to BA’s and played Back-Up (this is the game that R and I continuous kick BA’s Petunia at), this was T’s first time playing and of course BA showed no mercy.  She cheated her way to 2 wins and then T and I called it a night, we were just sitting on the front porch finishing off our wine when we heard loud raucous behaviour across the street.  Being as nosey as we are we decided to investigate what our lush neighbours were up too.  We ended up polishing off another bottle of wine, and going to bed around 1:30-2:00am, then we got up bright and early for an 8:00am run.  I know, I know, I don’t know what is wrong with us either.

Sunday JJ, BA, Ollie and I went to Mosport International Raceway to watch R tear it up on the track.  We had great afternoon, and Ollie loved all the blueberries and attention he received.

Where there is a will, there is a way…

It’s no secret that I kinda like shoes…and I fell in love with a pair at BCBG a couple of months ago.  Then last week I went into the store and they were on sale and then they were an extra 30% off the sale amount.  I had to have them – they will be mine.  I asked them to search the country for them in my size and just ship them to me, the store called me back to tell me that they didn’t make this particular shoe in a 5.5.  Ya right – they are on the internet in a 5.5.  Problem with their website it that they cannot ship to Canada.  Solution to that problem – I will order shoes and ship them to my brother in law’s place in Atlanta.  Next problem – they cannot accept international credit cards for payment, and JW isn’t going to be home for the next 3 weeks.  Hmmmmm…what to do?  I called them directly, they told me to call the NY store and they can process and ship to Canadian stores – YAY!  I called the NY store and they aren’t doing store searches since they are having this big promotion, but if I call back on Monday I will get my shoes.  I won’t get the extra 30% off, but my pretty little feet will be prancing around in some fancy new shoes.  I just know they will find my size and ship them to me.  I am eternally optimistic.  Here is a picture of Ollie hanging on my every word in my most recent quest for shoes.

And here is the latest picture of the shower – all done, just waiting for the glass to come in and we are all set.  Now I just have to pick out the new paint colour for the bathroom and it will look spectacular.

Ya sure your Generator is Broken

This year for R’s birthday I told him I would buy him a new generator for the track.  Then he decided it was more important to have an enclosed trailer (which costs a LOT more than a generator), so I said I would put the money towards the trailer instead.  This is my first official track widow weekend of the year, as he left first thing this morning for the track, with a NEW generator.  As he was packing his things into the trailer yesterday he decided to fire up his old (a whole year old) generator to make sure it was working.  Funny enough – it won’t stay running.  He has told me since we got this generator that it’s no good, it takes forever to do what he needs it to do, he needs one that is more powerful, etc…  Coincidence that it just isn’t working properly right before he needs to leave for the track?  I think not.  So off he went yesterday to buy himself a brand spanking new generator, he called me from the store to tell me that he had good news.  He can take this one back within 30 days if he isn’t happy with it, and RO is coming to our rescue again and he is going to fix the old one.  I have a sneaky suspicion that if this new generator is far superior to the old one it’s here to stay.  I still can’t believe I was naïve enough to think he would be happy with just the trailer.  Happy racing R – enjoy the new generator.  🙂

Water Wings

Apparently the police are doing a big blitz this week on distracted drivers, or so I have heard.  I do not know this first hand, but I have been told by a couple of different people, R included, that this is the case.  For this reason I have put my phone my bag this week so that I won’t read my emails and text messages while driving (at least I don’t respond to them while driving!).  Today I had the opportunity for a fantastic photo-op, a grown woman wearing rain boots and carrying an umbrella – (no shocker there, it is raining AGAIN) but she was also wearing WATER WINGS!  Awesome!  She must really have big puddles near her house if she is afraid she is going to drowned during her travels today.   Sadly I missed snapping her actual picture since I couldn’t access my phone in time, so you get the pleasure of viewing Water Wing Girl.  She’s cute huh?

And speaking of rain – let’s review our daily shower picture.  Here we are at the end of Day 5, wall tiles are almost all up and looks like SC is getting close to grouting.  Once he has all the marble trim completed we can order the glass and use our brand new shower!

Busy Busy Busy

Not much time today, I love being really busy and being propelled to complete tasks quickly and efficiently.  It is so much better than being complacent and procrastinating (the way I do when I am not busy).  So, for today all you are getting is an update of our shower.  The floor tiles are in and the marble around the entryway has been started.  Next step wall tile and grouting.  I am also getting a back splash completed in the kitchen and cross your fingers for me – under cabinet lighting – YES!

Domestic Me

Yesterday I was a self-proclaimed Domestic Goddess.  I am sure all the things I did are not spectacular, unless you live with me – and then they are.  We began our day typical to any other rainy Sunday, I made coffee, watched a little tv and then we headed out to JM & TM’s to pick up our patio furniture.  They are kind enough to store it for the winter for us in one of their buildings.  We then had to make a stop a Lowe’s and then hit the grocery store.  Once at the grocery store I had this sudden urge to make things, I formulated a cooking/baking plan for my afternoon while there.  Once home, I got to work on the BBBB’s (these are B’s Best Baked Buns) which are delicious, then I baked up a batch of Blueberry Lemon Muffins, threw a Casserole in the oven to freeze in individual portions for lunches, and then I made dinner.  I also did a couple of loads of laundry and some light general house work.  After all of my hard work I rewarded myself with a nice hot bubble bath.  None of this will seem impressive to those who actually cook at home, but since R and I have such opposite work schedules we rarely cook at home and usually only eat together on the weekends.  This makes me an honorary 1 day Domestic Diva.  Look out Gwyneth Paltrow, I am well on my way to my own cook book too.  And maybe I’ll expand my blog and call it GGi-Goop (for those who may not be aware, Goop is the name of Gwyneth’s website).  🙂

Cutting the Grass

I really enjoy cutting the lawn at home, I find it almost therapeutic.  I feel the same way about painting.  I cut the grass for the first time last week and had problems getting the lawn mower started after our long winter.  Finally got it going and got the grass cut to find that the weed whacker won’t stay going.  As soon as it started and I flipped the switch to turn the choke off it would stop.  So, yesterday after cutting the lawn I decided to change the gas in it.  It requires a 40:1 mixture of gas and oil, but the bottle only gave measurements for 50:1 and 32:1 – I was not feeling very mathematic so I left it aside in the hopes that R would come to my rescue.  He did, like a knight in shining armour he showed me this awesome syringe he has that shows you exactly how much to use.  AMAZING!  Gas is changed, I am ready to make the lawn look finished.  But fate had other plans for me, it will not stay started.  We have now enlisted the expertise of RO, to give it some RLC (RO loving care) in hopes that he can revive it.  Right now the lawn looks sloppy, like I am too lazy to finish what I started. Which is the case in some situations, but not this one.

Here is another picture of the shower, taken after day 3.  Yesterday a second light was added and the vent in the bathroom was moved so that it could actually do it’s job (apparently it was installed in a useless spot).

Ahhhh, Spring….

T, JC and I are back to our early morning run routine.  We set out yesterday morning at about 5:15am and it was beautiful out, there is a calmness and tranquility that you feel in the air running that early.  Very few vehicles are on the road yet racing to make it to their destination before the traffic jams begin, and the sun is just rising casting a soft glow for the promise of a new day.  I felt so invigorated this morning when we got back, I know that I will be exhausted by the end of this day (I work 9-8 today) but it is well worth it.  I also managed to get some tulips planted in my garden, thanks to B & B’s suggestion that I buy already potted ones from the store and just plop them in my garden.  Now they will be there for years to come and next spring I won’t have tulip envy.  Now I am just waiting for my lily of the valley to start blooming and for my lilac tree to bloom.

I also have an update on our shower.  You can’t tell from the picture but the shower it now about 2 feet bigger and it’s going to have a little teeny tiny corner seat.

Bathroom Renos

We are having our en suite shower gutted and re-done.  This needed to be done, I have mentioned before that it is gross and that I have not showered in there for about 2 years now.  It was strictly R’s shower, it was small and grungy and mouldy and GROSS.  The entry to the shower was so narrow that R probably couldn’t have just walked straight in, he would need to turn sideways a little to fit through.  So last week an old friend of R’s came by to check it out for us, he is a contractor and just happened to be available this week (I think R pre planned this, just so I would say ‘yes’).  One look and he told us R should not have used that shower.  The mould in the grout was uniformly spread across the bottom of the shower floor, and the water wasn’t draining properly.  We decided that if we were going to undertake the shower reno, we may as well make it bigger in there.  I have decided to post a picture of the progress every day or 2 so you can see how it’s coming along.   SC (the contractor) started yesterday with the demolition of the shower, it was much worse than he originally thought and mentioned we were very lucky that it hadn’t yet leaked through the kitchen ceiling.  Whoever installed this shower the first time around didn’t know what they were doing, apparently it was done a little backwards which explains the mould and nastiness.  Here is today’s picture – this is day 1 of Shower Reno.  Old tiles and mould are gone, and you really get a feeling for how small and dark it was – ridiculous really when you see the size of our bathroom.  I think our bathroom is the same size as our bedroom at our old house. 🙂

Track Widow

There are many different types of widow’s – below I have listed a few.

1.  Widow – someone who has lost their spouse 😦 (this is the sadest, and I send my love to anyone who has lost their spouse)
2. Black Widow – scary looking spider with red hour-glass shape on its large bulbous body
3. White Widow – this is a type of cannabis, I only know this from google – I swear!
4. Widow’s Peak – a pointy hairline on your forehead
5. Widow’s Walk – a railed rooftop platform popular on 19th century houses
6. Track Widow – this is a spouse who is left to fend for themselves for the summer while their other half races his days away at the track. (like ME)

I am number 6, a track widow.  R has successfully acquired both the Diesel SUV he desired and the covered trailer to trailer his bikes, our money tree came into bloom early this season it seems.  This past weekend he informed me of the upcoming track events he has booked.  He is away 4 times over the next 5 weeks, and that only brings us into June!  He swears that this is the busiest time of the year in the spring and early summer, but I have a feeling I am going to be track widowed for the majority of the summer.  So, if anyone has anything fun and exciting planned and you want company let me know.  Looks like my calendar is wide open.  Happy Racing R!
